Halo-Halo-Wide.webp

The delicious halo-halo (lit. mix-mix) is a pleasant summer dessert or snack made of mixed fruit and beans and topped with finely crushed ice and either milk or ice cream. Bananas, jackfruit, coconut, sweet potatoes, red mung beans, chickpeas, sugar palm fruit, purple yam jam, Leche flan, and, more recently, sweet corn or corn crisps are some of the most prevalent halo-halo components.

Before the Japanese rule of the Philippines in the 1940s, halo-halo sweets were served by Japanese merchants in halo-halo parlors or at numerous street booths. In reality, this Filipino specialty is thought to have been inspired by anmitsu, a Japanese summer drink made with shaved ice.
